These emblematic pieces of Mexican art come from the Zaxic firm, specialized in working with local artisans and promoting sustainable economic development in disadvantaged regions. Materials such as ceramics, wood, beads, clay, silver, and even paper, become artistic pieces thanks to the work of talented artisans.
Craftsmanship is transformed into cultural expressions admired throughout the world. The colors and materials are mixed with different techniques that bring with them different and emblematic pieces, which today are part of our decoration.
These crafts originating from Oaxaca and previously only called carved figures, are created with materials such as wood or paper, their original shapes and colors characterize them.
Tradition says that the name “alebrije” was given by the Linares family of San Martín Tilcajete in Oaxaca, famous artisans who dedicated themselves to creating this emblem inspired by their own dreams.
Today alebrijes are one of the most popular and best-selling crafts both in Mexico and in the rest of the world, a characteristic symbol of the country's culture.
This tradition, which has prevailed for decades, is made with beads and thread. Each design is unique, and stands out for its symbology that tells stories and legends of the Huichol culture, in addition to providing high religious symbolism.
It is made in states such as Nayarit, Jalisco, San Luis Potosí, Durango and Zacatecas and it is said that the artisans capture their vision of religion in each piece and that they are influenced by the visions they have during their rituals.
