As one of the largest capitals in the world and one of the most fascinating metropolises, Mexico City offers a wealth of romantic activities that make it a perfect destination for a couple's getaway.
If you are going to visit the fabulous CDMX, here’s a list of 7 amazing things to do. Get ready to enjoy cultural, recreational and gastronomic experiences that will lead you to discover the city in an unforgettable way.
Attend a Concert, Opera or Event at the Palace of Fine Arts
For a romantic evening in Mexico City, take your date to a concert, opera or other cultural event presented at the magnificent Palacio de Bellas Artes.
This place is the ultimate art house in Mexico and the shows presented here are as wonderful as the building itself, which is considered one of the main architectural jewels of the city.
Inside the palace, you will find a museum with extraordinary temporary art exhibits, as well as 12 permanent murals by the leading representatives of Mexican muralism, such as Diego Rivera, José Clemente Orozco and David Alfaro Siqueiros.
CentralTip: If you want to take a good picture of the façade of the Palace of Fine Arts, you can visit the cafeteria right across the street, on the eighth floor of the Sears building. From there you will have a beautiful and perfect view of the palace.
Go to the Night of Museums
The last Wednesday of every month is the Night of Museums in CDMX. During this event, many of the city's museums extend their opening hours for a special activity. It can be a special guided tour of their exhibits, a jazz concert with wine, a workshop, a talk or a film screening, among many other things.
The activities are usually free and are ideal for a cultural night out in the city with your partner. We recommend you to check the official Facebook page of the Night of Museums in CDMX to know the activities that will be taking place and plan your evening.
The Historic Center is the area with more museums participating in the Night of Museums, so if you organize yourself, you could make a night tour of several museums in this part of the city.
Enjoy Sunday Bike Rides
Little by little CDMX is making efforts to become a bike-friendly city. While there are several bike paths and special bike lanes, the best way to enjoy a 2-wheeled ride are the "Muévete en bici" Sundays.
Every Sunday, from 8 am to 2 pm several streets of the city, including Paseo de la Reforma, close totally or partially to vehicular traffic to give a car-free space to residents and visitors of CDMX to ride freely on bicycles.
This activity is incredible as a couple, as it allows you to enjoy a pleasant ride through some of the most emblematic places in the city. As a visitor, you can rent a bike per day at Ecobici or go to one of the loan kiosks on Paseo de la Reforma.
If you do this activity, we recommend you to ride along Paseo de la Reforma from the sculpture of El Caballito to Chapultepec Forest and back through the streets of the Condesa or Roma neighborhoods to have brunch in one of its cozy restaurants.
Have a Picnic in the Chapultepec Forest
Without a doubt, Chapultepec Forest is always an option to visit as a couple. There are so many things to see and do here, such as visiting the Chapultepec Castle, touring incredible museums like the National Museum of Anthropology, the Museum of Modern Art and the Tamayo Museum, taking a boat ride on the lake, wandering the Botanical Garden, among many other things.
But, the romantic activity we recommend the most is having a picnic in its gardens. Take advantage of the sunny afternoons in the city to enjoy a pleasant moment immersed in nature and away from the hustle and bustle.
You can buy food and drinks in a store, or you can choose to hire a "picnic basket" that Las Puertas del Paraíso café (located a few steps from the forest) offers with sandwiches or quiches, coffee, wine or soft drink, and even a tablecloth and utensils, so you don't have to worry about anything.
Visit San Angel
San Angel is one of the most beautiful and charming neighborhoods south of Mexico City. Here you can enjoy a whole day with your partner among cobblestone streets and beautiful old houses.
Visit the Casa Estudio Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo Museum, where these two great artists lived for a few years, and then walk around the different art and craft galleries in the area. Here you will also find a good selection of cozy restaurants and cafés to end your day in this magical neighborhood with something sweet.
Have a Drink at Over 100 Meters Above the Ground
There are several terraces with unique views for cocktails in the city, and while most of them are worth it, there’s nothing like being in some of the highest bars in the city and enjoying incredible panoramic views.
On Paseo de la Reforma, there are two restaurants/bars that, besides offering excellent mixology and a great selection of food, have the best panoramic views of Mexico City. We are talking about Cityzen, located on a 38th floor, and Ling Ling, located on a 56th floor.
The night views from both places are breathtaking: an infinite sea of lights with some of the city's most emblematic buildings and monuments. We recommend arriving at dusk to see the city in sunlight, although the real spectacle takes place at night.
Hot Air Balloon Ride Over Teotihuacán
Finally, we have this great experience that you should definitely live with your partner.
Balloon rides are incredible, but this one is even more so because you will fly at dawn over the pyramids and vestiges of Teotihuacán, the "City of the Gods". You will be amazed by the fabulous views, and it will become one of the best experiences you will have during your visit to CDMX.
Which of these plans will you make with your partner on your next visit to Mexico City? If you come for several days, you will be able to enjoy different experiences that will make your stay in the city unforgettable.
We hope you enjoy these activities. At Central Hoteles, we look forward to offering you an oasis of rest in the heart of the Historic Center, where you can immerse yourself in the charms of Mexico City.
See you soon!
